New Beginnings

Spring has finally arrived!  Spring is a time of fresh starts and new beginnings. But new beginnings can come about at any time, not just in the Spring. A new beginning could be a marriage, a new baby, a new job, or maybe just an new outlook on life.

We had a wonderful speaker this month, Pat Mcclure. She paints the most amazing items you have ever seen, from baby booties and bowls to magnets and Easter eggs.  She gave us all some tips so we could try and do our own little art project.  We all painted crosses on a square tile, and they all turned out beautiful.  It was neat to see how differently each person chose to decorate their cross.

As always there was yummy food, a fun game, and great fellowship!

A Healthy Mom is a Happy Mom

We have all heard that if momma's not happy then nobody is happy. How true that is!  Well a healthy mom is a happy mom, and that makes everyone happy! Our March meeting focused on nutrition, and how to get on board with a healthy lifestyle. Everyone is different. Different shapes, different sizes, different personalities so it only  makes sense that everyone needs to find their own path to a healthier lifestyle. The basics seem to be the same for everyone though.

  • Eat breakfast! This really IS the most important meal of the day!
  • Cut as much sugar out of your diet as possible. Sugar is not good for any part of your body
  • Fruits and vegetables are always good for you
  • Changing your diet is crucial but it won't do anything for you without exercise
Our first speaker, Tina McLelland shared so many tips about how to eat better, and exercise more. She gave us a peek into her daily menus and exercise routine. She was a great motivator and I think we all felt like we were better equipped to continue or start our healthier path.

Our second speaker Kristin Cook was much more than that!  She led us all in a little Zumba workout. A high energy workout that targets every part of your body and gets your heart pumping. It was so much fun!

We also enjoyed a yummy brunch buffet, and played a fun game of Bingo! Another fun and uplifting MOPS meeting! We won't all be super model skinny, but we can be the healthiest version of ourselves. We only have one body, the one God has given us, so doesn't it make sense to take the best possible care of it?

What Happens at MOPS Stays at MOPS

Better late than never!  We were finally able to have our February MOPS meeting!  You would never guess that we had to reschedule due to snow and below freezing temperatures when it's 80 degrees today and sunny!  Only in Texas!

Our theme for February was.....LOVE of course!   To keep with the theme we had a wonderful buffet with a chocolate fountain. After all who doesn't love chocolate?!

We had an amazing guest speaker today.  Nita Lax spoke to us about love and marriage.  She shared some treasured stories about her own marriage and shared some tips and advice on how to make the most of our own. We touched on many things like being supportive, giving our husbands space, and making sure we have at least one "night shirt".  The one thing that came up more than once was making time for our husbands. We all get so busy with our day to day routines that sometimes we don't make our husbands a priority. So take some time out of each day to let him know that you love and cherish him with all your heart.

Starting this month we are starting a monthly MOPS play date!  Once a month we will schedule an
outing for us and all the kiddos. This will be a great chance for the little ones (and us)  to make new friends and have some fun!  This month we are going to Jump For Joy!  Hope to see you there!

How Will You Organize in 2011?

So long 2010!  2011 is here and in full swing!  Lets start it out right by decluttering and organizing our homes, our lives, and our minds. Our January meeting was all about just that, organizing and the domino effect it can have on our lives. Some key points were:

5 Reasons To Get Organized
  1. Improved relationships
  2. Better health both physically and mentally
  3. More free time (and who wouldn't want more of that?!)
  4. More space in your home
  5. More $ (again..who wouldn't want more of that?!)
Some Organization Tips
  1.  Everything should have a home
  2. One way to get rid of but still "appreciate" kids' artwork, send some to relatives far away
  3. When beginning a decluttering, or organizing project start with the most challenging project first.  Once that one is done you know you can do anything!
  4. A good way to keep toys in check and teach children to give to others is, when one toy comes into the house, one toy (of their choice) goes out.

Deena working hard on her craft
Brook very proud of hers

We made cute little coupon, or receipt holders

Sharon delivering an inspirational message
Sharon Bankead, one of our mentor moms read an inspirational passage about all the different jobs, us as wives, mothers, and women, do for our families every day. When you have a chance take a look at Proverbs 31:10-31

And last but not least, we said our goodbyes to Kelly Moore.  She headed up the Creative Activities with Jenny Armstrong.  She will be moving to San Antonio with her family next month.  We wish her the best of luck!

Reminders:
January's MDO is January 19, 2011
Be sure to contact the church office or sign up outside the 4 yr. old class at Little Hands.

How Do You Define "Tradition"?

Tradition-noun: a continuing pattern of culture beliefs or practices

But I think we learned at our Dec. MOPS meeting that "tradition" means so much more. Tradition is keeping alive the memory of a lost one. It is creating and nurturing a bond between you and the ones you love. It is a way to show our little ones how much we love them by including them in the traditions that helped make us the way we are. Tradition is so many different things to people, but it does have one common facet. Tradition comes from the heart.

We also dealt with another very important subject involving Christmas. Ugly Christmas Sweaters!!!! We had an Ugly Christmas Sweater contest that yielded lots of laughs and 3 winners.

Our entertainment for the day was the Little Hands Pre-K children singing Christmas songs and jingling their jingle bells. It was wonderful!

Sprinkle in a waffle bar and some fun Christmas games and it's fair to say we had a wonderful MOPS meeting!

Remember January 5th is our next MOPS Meeting
